Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC HSM A Lens Review
Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC Sample Photos
Sharpness improves across the frame as the lens is stopped down to around f/8 | 1/250 sec | f/6.3 | 30.0 mm | ISO 100 | Contrast remains high, even when shooting into the light | 1/250 sec | f/5.0 | 30.0 mm | ISO 100 |
Closest focus is 30cm, which is fairly typical for a lens like this | 1/1250 sec | f/1.4 | 30.0 mm | ISO 100 | Although sharpness in the centre of the frame is very good at the maximum aperture, the test lens focused inconsistently using phase detection as can be seen in this image taken using the centre focusing point | 1/400 sec | f/1.4 | 30.0 mm | ISO 100 |
1/200 sec | f/2.8 | 30.0 mm | ISO 100 | 1/125 sec | f/11.0 | 30.0 mm | ISO 100 |
1/640 sec | f/5.6 | 30.0 mm | ISO 100 | 1/50 sec | f/5.6 | 30.0 mm | ISO 320 |
Value for Money
Priced at around £260, this lens is fairly priced as you get a fast f/1.4 aperture and excellent build quality. Owners of Canon cameras equipped with an APS-C sized sensor may be particularly interested in this lens, as Canon offer no alternative.Nikon's 35mm f/1.8 DX lens is cheaper at around £150, but the maximum aperture is slower. Whether the slight extra light gathering ability of the Sigma lens is worth just over £100 will be down to you.
